About David & DH HR Consulting
David founded DH HR Consulting in 2015, driven by his passion for creating effective HR infrastructure, people strategies, and programs. His mission is to help small businesses elevate their People Operations, enhancing the employee experience while maximizing team potential.
In 2020, amidst the pandemic, David guided numerous small businesses through unprecedented workplace challenges. From retaining key employees to resetting expectations around policies, compensation, remote work, wellness programs, and the overall post-COVID employee experience, he helped employers navigate uncertainty and emerge stronger. Small businesses, often lacking dedicated HR teams, especially benefited from David’s expertise in re-evaluating and reimagining their People practices.
David views challenges as opportunities for growth. He enjoys working with start-ups, PR firms, social service providers, and professional services companies, helping them navigate their current challenges while uncovering new possibilities along the way.
Coaching Experience
Since founding DH HR Consulting, David has coached managers, management teams, and business owners to optimize leadership and team dynamics. In 2024-25, he is attending Coach U’s Professional Coach Training Program, preparing for the ICF (International Coaching Federation) certification exam, further enhancing his ability to guide clients through personal and professional growth.
Previous Experience
Before starting DH HR Consulting, David served as Global Head of Human Resources at IES Abroad, a leading non-profit study abroad organization, for over a decade. There, he transformed a paper-based, US-centric HR function into a fully global, systems-driven department. His initiatives in recruiting, performance management, employee record-keeping, and payroll automation were key to the organization’s growth, even during the financial downturn of 2008-2011.

David enjoys working directly with Founders and CEOs of small businesses, bringing his extensive experience to improve People Operations and create high-performing teams. His strategic approach helps senior leaders build strong, scalable employee frameworks that align with their business goals.
About David
David holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Michigan State University, with a focus on mediated and interpersonal communication. He lives in the Edgewater Glen neighborhood of Chicago with his partner, Andy, and their two dogs, Mack and Ferris.
